Here are the
nineteen nominees for ministerial appointments by President Mohammadu Buhari.
We would be running a quick review on the political, social and educational
background of each an everyone one of them.
CHRIS NGIGE (63)
He hails
from Anambra. Studied Medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He has
served as a medical doctor at the National Assembly and State House at
different times. He was the deputy director in the Federal Ministry of Health
before he retired in 1998.
He is one of
the founding members of the People’s Democratic Party. He succeeded Chinwoke
Mbadinuju as the governor of Anambra State in May, 2003. He was elected as a
senator under the Action Congress of Nigeria in May 2011, representing the
Anambra central constituency.
KAYODE FAYEMI (50)
He hails
from Ekiti. Studied History and International relations at the University of
Lagos, Msc, History, Politics and International Relations at the University of
Ife and PhD, War Studies in the University of London, England.
Kayode is an
addict intellectual. He succeeded Olusegun Oni as the governor of Ekiti State
in October 2010 and later involved a re-election bid which later resulted in a
fiasco between the All Progressive Congress and the People’s Democratic Party.
ROTIMI AMAECHI (50)
Hails from
Rivers. Studied English and Literature at the University of Port Harcourt.
Between 1992
and 1994, he was a Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor of Rivers State,
Dr. Peter Odili, who saw him as his political god-son. He became the Speaker of
the River State House of Assembly in 1999. His relationship with Odili later
went sour during his campaign to succeed him as the governor of Rivers State in
2007. In 2013, Amaechi defected from PDP to APC, following the series of
fall-outs he had with the former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He has
served as the State governor for two terms and has been succeeded by the
incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike.
BABATUNDE FASHOLA (52)
He hails
from Lagos. Studied Law at the University of Benin. He is a Senior Advocate of
Nigeria.
He served as
Chief of Staff under his predecessor, Ahmed Bola Tinubu. He later became
Commissioner to the governor’s office. He succeeded Tinubu in 2007 under the
Action Congress of Nigeria, and has served two terms.
ABDULRAHMAN DANBAZAU (61)
Hails from
Kano. Graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna as a member of the 17
Regular Combatant Course.
He became
the Registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy from 1993 to 1999. He succeeded
Maj-Gen M.S Saleh as the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Ibadan in 2007.
He also succeeded Luka Yusuf in 2008 as the Chief of Army Staff.
AISHA AL-HASSAN
She hails
from Taraba. She is a Lawyer by training. She has served as Taraba State
Attorney General and and Commissioner of justice. She is the first woman to be
appointed as Secretary FCT judicial council and later appointed the Chief
Registrar of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja in 2003.
She decamped from PDP to APC and became the gubernatorial candidate for APC in
Taraba but was defeated in the election re-run held on 25th
April,2015.
Currently
she is a Senator representing Taraba North constituency.
OGBONNAYA ONU (64)
Hails from
Ebonyi State. He studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Lagos where
he graduated with a First class honours degree. He went ahead to obtain his PhD
on Chemical Engineering (without passing through a masters degree) at the
University of California.
He was the
first executive governor of Abia State during which his administration was
interrupted by Military rule. He is one of the brain box behind the strongest
opposition party which came to actualize the take over of power from the ruling
party.
KEMI ADEOSUN (47)
She hails
from Ogun. She studied Economics at the University of East London, United
Kingdom. She obtained a diploma in Public Financial Management at the
University of London.
She is a
member of the institute of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales. She is
also a member of the Chartered Institute of Accountant of Nigeria.
After having
worked at various establishments in London, she served as a commissioner of
Finance in Ogun State from 2011 to 2015.
ABUBAKAR MALAMI (48)
Hails from
Kebbi. He studied Law at the Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He obtained
his MPA in Public Administration at the University of Maidugri. He is a Senior
Advocate of Nigeria.
He was an
aspirant for the office of the governor of Kebbi State in 2015 on the platform
of the APC but lost the ticket to Atiku Bagudu.
HADI SIRIKA
He hails
from Katsina. He is a former pilot and an elder in the Congress for Progressive
Change. He is currently a Senator representing Katsina North Senatorial
district.
He hails from Oyo. He is a Lawyer by training and is a former governorship candidate of the CPC in Oyo State.
SULEIMAN ADAMU
Hails from
Jigawa. Studied Civil Engineering at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He
obtained his Msc in Project Management at the University of Reading, United
Kingdom. He is the Vice President of the Association of Consulting Engineers in
Nigeria. A picture of Suleiman would be posted later.
SOLOMON DALONG (51)
Hails from Plateau. He studied Law at the University of Jos. He became a lecturer at the University of Jos in 2004. He obtained his LLM in 2007.
He joined
the Prisons Service and rose to the rank of Assistant Inspector of Prisons. He
also served as Legal Officer II in the Prisons headquarters prior to his
retirement. He was appointed the Local Government Chairman of Langtang South in
2007.
IBE KACHIKWU
Hails from
Delta. Studied Law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He obtained his LLM
degree from Harvard, specializing in Energy, Petroleum Law and Investment. He
also obtained his PhD in Petroleum and Investment Law Strategy after completing
his doctoral thesis.Curremtly he is the General Managing Director of the
Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
He hails from Edo. Studied Medicine in Ludwig Maximillians University, Munich. He also holds Post Graduate Diplomas from the Teaching Hospital of the University of Dusseldorf and Essen, Germany, in the areas of Anaesthesiology, General Surgery and Orthopaedic Trauma surgery. He was Registrar, Clinical Instructor, University of Benin Teaching Hospital. He was also Consultant Surgeon, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria.
AUDU OGBEH (68)
He hails
from Benue. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and obtained his
Msc from the University of Toulouse, France. He lectured at the Institute of
Education, Ahmadu Bello University, and headed the Department of Humanities,
Murtala College of Arts, Science and Technology.
In 1979, he
ran for office in the Benue State House of Assembly on the platform of the
National Party of Nigeria (NPN). He later became the deputy speaker of the
House. He was a former Minister of Communication in the Second Republic and
former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party.
LAI MOHAMMED (64)
Hails from
Kwara. He studied French at the Obafemi Awolowo University. He worked as
spokesman of Nigerian Airport Authority. He obtained a degree in Law from the
University of Lagos.
He was the
first Chief of Staff of former Lagos State governor, Ahmed Bola Tinubu. He
contested in the 2003 gubernatorial elections in Kwara State against Bukola
Saraki, then of the PDP and lost. He has been the founding spokesman of the All
Progressive Congress since 2013.
AHMED ISA IBETO
He hails
from Niger. He resigned from his office as the Deputy governor of Niger State
and also withdrew his membership of the People’s Democratic Party to team up
with the All Progressive Congress in his state. Ibeto had previously been a
member of the Federal House of representatives, representing Rijau/Magma
Federal Constituency.
AMINA MUHAMMED (54)
She hails
from Kaduna. Amina is currently the special advicer to the UN
Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon on Post 2015 Development Planning. She has
worked severally as senior advicer on Millenium Development Goals to three
Nigerian Presidents.
UDOMA UDOH UDOMA
He hails
from Akwa Ibom. He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who resigned his membership
of the PDP a few weeks ago. He was a two-term senator in the Nigerian Senate,
representing Akwa Ibom State.
No concrete information has been made available on President Buhari’s Nassarawa State ministerial nominee. Jibiril might be the only fresh man on the national spotlight who made it to the ministerial nominee list compiled by President Buhari.
